Ravi Namboori Equinix - Biography
Ravi Namboori is a Cisco evangelist, besides being a philanthropist and a passionate entrepreneur.
It all started in Bhimavaram town in Andhra Pradesh, where he pursued his bachelor’s degree in electronics and communication from the DNR Autonomous College. In June 1995, he bagged his first job in Hyderabad, India with a company named Point Soft. He joined as a network administrator and was with them till December 1996. This enabled him to move up the value chain as he became a senior network administrator with Satyam Computers, now Tech Mahindra, where he continued working till November 1998.
From December 1998 to December 1999, Ravi Namboori worked with Metamor Enterprise Solutions as a network manager. While with Metamor, he created the documentation for the complete network and also wrote a manual for using the network present then.
All of these jobs were in Hyderabad. But greener pastures beckoned him when he landed a job with the prestigious global IT major Hewlett-Packard (HP) in Holland. Here, Namboori was the network manager from December 1999, and his achievements included design of the local area network (LAN), call center systems for the company facility, developing Cisco Unified Intelligent Contact Management solutions to suit the specifications of each client, and designing the company’s external websites. He was in with HP till December 2000.
January 2001 was a defining point in Namboori’s life as he got a break in the Silicon Valley with a company named Bravara Communication, which was based out of Palo Alto. He was, in fact, this company’s first software employee. The company subsequently hired seven more employees in the same department, and he was made its manager. This stint saw Namboori along with his team connect office systems successfully through a Bravara router and related systems. He monitored the setting up of the infrastructure from the scratch of the software department.
He quit this company in August of 2001 to join Applied Materials, where he was a senior network architect. After leaving Applied Materials in November 2001, Namboori joined Atheros Communications, which is now Qualcomm Atheros, as a senior network manager. He served here till August 2004. During his stint here, he coordinated with different departments to set up offices in India, Taiwan, and Irvine. He was also responsible for improving IT efficiency and service level through 60% server consolidation and virtualization.
In October 2004, he became a director with Harmonic Inc. in Sunnyvale, California. Ravi Namboori was responsible for overseeing the implementation of many new systems in this company. Following this stint, he joined Glu-Mobile in March 2007 again as a director. At this San Mateo, California-based company he implemented both short and long-term IT policies that were tailored to fit the business strategy of the company. He redesigned the global network infrastructure as well at this company.
In February 2009, Namboori joined as an IT director with a company, which was based out of Santa Clara, California. By designing and putting in place a worldwide voice over Internet protocol (VOIP) system, he helped the company save its yearly telecommunication expenses by about 50 percent. He is also credited with paring the company’s spend by more than $2.7 million annually by renegotiating contracts of telecommunications, hardware, and software.
Currently, he is serving as a consultant for Newgen Corporation in Fremont.
A Cisco Certified Network Professional, he is also a Caldera Certified Linux Administrator, and holds an MCSE +IP certification. Namboori Ravi holds a total of seven Cisco certifications. These are as an Internet work expert, voice professional, network professional, network associate, design associate, design professional, and academy instructor. This is in addition to his certifications in Microsoft and Novell.
He also has experience with different protocols, such as SPAS (SharePoint as a service), LaaS (Lab as a Service), networking, security, and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), etc. Namboori’s experience also ranges to areas like IT outsourcing and customer support, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, post-merger-and-acquisition, integration, etc. He has mastery over the use of industry standard software and hardware, including Cisco UCS GSR, Juniper M10, and Cisco Call Manager.
Ravi Namboori also monitored network operations of voice applications and campus infrastructure, storage area network/ network-attached storage (SAN/NAS) storage, data centers, telecom, Network Security and information security.
His achievements include the implementation of programs for Amazon.com Web services, enhancing its telepresence by integrating Cisco Unified Communications Manager with its services. Ravi Namboori has the credit of deploying industry standard process, such as Agile, Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), and Six Sigma, at various firms.
On the philanthropic front, Ravi Namboori devoted time and resources to charitable organizations across the globe. They include the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the Eye Bank Association of India, the Satya Sai Old Age Home the World Health Organization (WHO), among others.
